My name is Maggie McDermott, and I am a paraprofessional at St. Joseph School. I am from Brookings, South Dakota, although I have also lived in California, Arizona, Washington, and New Mexico during my childhood! I am the youngest of six children, three girls and three boys. I also have five nieces and three nephews. After graduating from high school in a public school system, I spent an academic year serving with Lumen Christi, a missionary program serving the Catholic Diocese of Sioux Falls, South Dakota. One part of my mission was spending time in the Roncalli Catholic School system in Aberdeen, South Dakota, where I encountered the beauty of Catholic schooling. As I spent the next two years at Northern State University studying Music Education and Elementary Education, it became clear that I wanted to end up in a Catholic school somewhere down the line. During this past academic year while I was still at Northern, I took a leap of faith and applied for the Epiphany House program with the School Sisters of Christ the King. I was accepted into the program and will be living in the Epiphany House for this academic year. I am looking forward to getting to know the staff, parents and students at St. Joseph’s School as I serve as a paraprofessional!
