School choice opponents are currently attempting to repeal the Opportunity Scholarships Act. Their self-named campaign is called "Support Our Schools." Opponents have filed a petition with the Secretary of State to engage in a ballot referendum process. If they collect enough signatures, LB753’s future will be subject to a vote of the people in November 2024.♦ Opponents have until August 30, 2023, to collect their needed signatures.

In response, the "Keep Kids First" campaign has been launched. The effort will educate Nebraskans about the truth of school choice and urge them to “Decline to Sign” the petition.

♦ Opponents need 5% of registered voters to sign their petition, which totals approximately 61,000 voters. They must obtain this 5% threshold in at least 38 of the state’s 93 counties. If opponents are able to obtain 10% of registered voters, it will put the law into a moratorium until after the ballot referendum vote.
