Fr. Stephen Graeve was born in Omaha, Nebraska, to Bill and Jayne Graeve. The family briefly moved to Dallas but finally settled in Lincoln as part of St. Peter’s parish. Fr. Graeve holds the honor and privilege of being the first St. Peter's parishioner ordained to the priesthood. After grade school, he went to Pius X High School, graduating in 2007.
After high school Fr. Graeve spent one year at Franciscan University in Steubenville, Ohio, and then decided to go to seminary. He then graduated from St. Gregory the Great Seminary in 2011, Mount St. Mary’s Seminary in 2015, and was ordained a priest on May 23rd, 2015 along with seven other men from the Diocese of Lincoln. His ordination class was the largest ordination class since 1988.
He was first assigned to St. Michael’s in Hastings with Fr. Michael Houlihan and Fr. Jeremy Hazuka. While there he taught 8th and 10th grade religion at St. Cecilia’s Middle and High School. On December 28th, 2017 he was assigned as parochial assistant at St. Joseph Parish in Lincoln. In addition, he teaches 11th grade religion at Pius X High School.
